1913 Black-built theater and archive in Historic Overtown

Description

The Lyric Theater was built in 1913 by Geder Walker and hosted performers such as Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald. The Black Archives History and Research Foundation of South Florida, founded in 1977 by Dr. Dorothy Jenkins Fields, bought and restored it and runs it as a theater, gallery and archive of Black South Florida history. It hosts concerts, talks, tours and the Lyric Live talent showcase.
