Nation's oldest independent Black history museum, in Washington Park
Description
Artist and educator Margaret Taylor-Burroughs and colleagues founded the museum in 1961 as the Ebony Museum of Negro History and Art. It has been in Washington Park since 1973 and holds more than 15,000 paintings, sculptures, prints and historical items. Perri L. Irmer leads the museum as president and CEO.
