About the business
Historic soul food cafe near downtown Phoenix, serving fried chicken since 1964
Description
Elizabeth J. White opened this cafe on Jefferson Street in 1964 after moving to Phoenix from Texas, taking over a spot her brother had run and renaming it under the motto of the Golden Rule. The kitchen is best known for its fried chicken and Southern home-style plates, served just east of downtown Phoenix. Mrs. White was honored by the governor of Arizona on her 100th birthday.
